January is always a funny month for me, having been born and raised in New Zealand I should now be in a bikini basking in the Summer sunshine, instead of wrapping up in anything that resembles a blanket! For a welcome escape from the Winter of the northern hemisphere, I get excited about all that new new. It offers a welcome escape from the virus’s and cold, and a preview of the warm Spring sunshine to come.
So why not Colour block it! Reina Olga’s Flashback 80’s collection really did take me back to NZ Summers as a kid with my favourite beach decade by far! Had I have been a woman and not a child in that era, my bikini of choice would have definitely been the Rio bikini in Coral:
A Coral Bandeau with purple cinched detail in the middle of the bust is in my eyes the most flattering Bandeau style, curving around and lifting the bust line. Teamed with an adaptation of the Brazilian scrunched front bottom made modern by a smooth seamless cheeky back in Coral, with purple hip straps. This suit shows us how to be fun and flirty with brights.
Be bold in solid colour! Sommer Swim knows how to amplify their solid colour suits by using fabrications with a luxe sheen to create another level of interest, shown here with Cobra- An electric lime green tone which inspires thoughts of Peridot “the gem of the sun”. This bright tone is made for shining in the warm sun and soaking up those rays, in a minimal sexy string style of Uma Top and Jane Bottom. This sleek set allows this bright jewel tone to take centre stage, complementary and chic, with that European Riviera chic Sommer Swim is known for. Other styles are also available in Cobra, all perfect for tanning whilst working as a seamless undergarment with your beach OOTD.
Be playful with prints- It’s no secret I love a mix of details as yummy and descriptive as a cocktail, and my love for the designers who knowingly find that perfect balance, without running the risk of looking tacky or overdone. Liliana Montoya harmonizes brights with exquisite hand embroidery and prints with considered precision which deliver fine detailed custom suits. The Mahiladiva collection is my favourite, as with The Margarita Bikini in Lillium. This sexy ruched back Columbian Bikini features nude tones flocked by bright floral design, with trim and lining in bright neon pink. Hand embroidery traces and lifts the floral pattern on the top adding texture, while neon pink tassels add another festive touch to the adjustable hip ties that will have you dancing to see them move, giving you a truly rocking suit.
Soon enough we will be welcoming Spring! Bring on the blooms and the bright inspirations delivered to you fresh from these fun-loving, fierce designers, who are not afraid to take a walk on the bright side.
